Portfolio - Aviation and Military Tests

Aircraft BF16 taxis in after flying in from Fort Worth, Texas. Moments later, the Lightning II joined the opening ceremony, as VMFA-121 was activated as an operational F35 squadron at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma on November 20th, 2018.

Here is a 3/4 rear view of a newly delivered Lockheed Thunderbolt II, parked in front of a hanger at MCAS Yuma, Arizona, just prior to the ceremony to activate VMFA-121 as the Marine Corps' first active F-35 squadron.

Two F-16s of the US Air Force Thunderbirds flight demonstration team pass by each other at a closing speed of at least 950 mph.

This extremely wide shot gives some indication of the size and wingspan of America's longest serving nuclear capable bomber, the Boeing B-52.

This is a typical image from a series of weapons tests I covered on film for the US Navy in the early 2000's. A high-speed projectile is fired through a target only 150 feet from the gun barrel, seen here in flight as it exits the canvas.

Artillery test photographers often attempt to capture the shell immediately after it leaves the barrel, as a dramatic image for the test director's report. The negative for this shot was originally exposed 3 stops darker than seen here, to preserve the detail in the flames. Careful masking and adjustments were made in Photoshop to show all the detail the image holds.
